Our Story Africa Off Track

Africa Off Track grew from a lifetime spent guiding and working across Africa’s wild places — shaping safaris that are built to work in the real world.

Dan Peel is a Zimbabwean safari guide and wildlife photographer who has spent more than eighteen years guiding and exploring across Africa’s wilderness areas, building a career around wildlife, photography and the experience of travelling through some of the continent’s most remote landscapes.

His guiding has taken him across a wide range of ecosystems throughout East and Southern Africa - from Kenya’s northern conservancies and national parks to remote wilderness areas where understanding terrain, seasonal movement and wildlife behaviour is essential. Over time, this has developed into a practical, ground-level understanding of how safaris actually work.

Alongside guiding, Dan has developed a strong reputation as a wildlife photographer, particularly through long-term work documenting Laikipia’s famous melanistic black leopard. This work reflects a broader approach - spending time in places, understanding them properly, and building knowledge through experience rather than quick visits.

Today, that same approach underpins every safari designed through Africa Off Track - creating journeys that feel well-paced, considered and connected to the landscapes they move through, rather than simply following a fixed route.

Livvy Foley – Safari Planner & Expedition Logistics

Livvy brings the planning and logistical structure behind Africa Off Track, shaping each safari so it runs smoothly from start to finish while still feeling natural and unforced.

Her background is closely tied to Africa and overland travel. Born in the UK but raised in Africa. She went to primary school in Victoria Falls, Livvy grew up surrounded by the landscapes and environments that now shape many of the journeys she helps design.

Her connection to travel is also rooted in family history. Livvy is part of the Foley family, whose long-standing involvement in Land Rover and overland travel spans generations. That heritage - built around vehicles, exploration and practical travel across Africa  continues today through Foley’s Africa, run by her brother, and has played a key role in shaping her understanding of how safaris function beyond just the itinerary.

At Africa Off Track, Livvy focuses on translating that experience into well-structured journeys - coordinating routes, accommodation and logistics in a way that allows each safari to feel seamless, while still retaining a sense of adventure and flexibility.

Together, this combination of field experience and practical planning is what defines how Africa Off Track safaris are built.

Why Africa Off Track Exists

Africa Off Track was created from a simple belief — that the best safaris are shaped by real experience, not templates.

Too often, itineraries are built without enough understanding of distance, timing or how wildlife viewing actually works, leading to journeys that feel rushed or disconnected.

Our approach is different. Every route is designed with a clear focus on balance — choosing the right areas at the right time, allowing space to explore, and recommending camps and lodges that fit naturally into the landscape.

Rather than fixed packages, we build flexible safari frameworks that can be followed as they are or adapted to suit each traveller.

Travel Through Africa the Right Way

Africa Off Track was built on the idea that a good safari isn’t defined by how much you do, but by how well a journey comes together.

Many itineraries try to cover too much ground, moving quickly between locations without allowing time to properly settle into a place or understand what makes each area unique.

We take a more measured approach — focusing on fewer, well-chosen regions, giving each part of the journey the time it needs, and selecting camps and lodges that genuinely belong in their environment.

The result is a collection of flexible safari routes that provide a strong foundation, while still leaving space to adjust the journey around each traveller’s pace and priorities.

We started Africa Off Track because we love sharing Africa’s wild places with travellers who want to experience them properly.

We started Africa Off Track to help travellers experience Africa properly — with safaris that are designed to work, not just look good on paper.

If you’re planning a journey — whether it’s your first or your fiftieth — we’d love to help you shape it.
